Urso de Óculos

Books + Coffee + View in Itacaré, Bahia, Brazil

about us

Urso de Óculos is a bookshop on the waterfront in the historic centre of Itacaré, northeast Brazil.

We sell new and used books in Catalan, Danish English, Finnish, Flemish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish and Swedish.

Our focus is on high quality books related to Brazilian and Bahian culture, and excellent general paperpack fiction (in our 2 for 1 book exchange).

We also do coffee, fine teas and have a lovely seaview.

Urso de Óculos (a.k.a. The Spectacled Bear):

The bookshop and its cuddly mascot was named in homage to the only bear in South America. The Spectacled Bear lives in the rainforests of Brazil and other areas of the continent.

Despite the odds against its survival due to horribly daft human activity, our shop’s namesake has escaped total annilation because of an ability to climb to the highest ground. We try to do the same, and are proud to continue among the diminishing world species of independent bookshops.

Long live bears and bookshops.
